Rising damp is growth of water and damp down the subfloor and ramparts of structures. It can be a widespread problem with old houses that are constructed with brick or sandstone substructures. These substructures can function as a scrounger to the moisture in the ground, drinking in water into walls and resulting in the nasty effects of rising damp.

Majority houses that do not have damp course fitted (a plastic lining) have more possibility of Rising Damp.
